Finding time for new hobbies isn’t always easy. We have the pressure of making sure that everyone in our household is where they need to be, tidy homes, great jobs, good social life, cooking from scratch and getting the right amount of sleep each night. It can be exhausting, even considering adding extra things into our already busy lives. But hobbies are linked to our happiness.
And, the more you like your hobby the happier you'll be. That isn’t to say that any stress or mental health issues will melt away – but it does mean that you can build in something that you can do to make you happy, or bring you a sense of peace.
Hobbies can teach us new skills too. Blogging, for example, has long since outgrown the time where it was simply writing. It is now photography, HTML, social media management and so much more.
Here are a few ways hobbies can help you:
- New passions
- Skills
- Social connections and community
- Income – side hustle!
- Stress reduction
- Building confidence
If I convinced you, here are 5 hobbies to fall in love with.
Pet photography
I am a huge animal lover and I love photography, so it was normal that I would go for pet photography. Besides that, I think this is the perfect way to start if you are a beginner in photography. You don't even need a lot of tools, like background and so on. All you need is your DSLR and some pet grooming brush, to make them look perfect. I use for my cat the grooming brush from SleekEZ, it's simple to use and she enjoys the process to the maximum.
Journaling
If you are looking to boost your creativity and find a way to wind down at the end of every day, then journaling is an excellent practice. Writing about your day, or noting down what you want to achieve can really give you a new sense of focus. Writing on a regular basis has been linked to reducing your stress levels too. There are different types of journals that you can choose from. Dream journals, ideas journals, planning and productivity and gratitude are just a few. But you can use any book you like and write whatever you like in too. What matters is that you do it daily.
In order to make your journal more personal, you can also decorate it with different SVGs like the
flower svg or
crown svg. It will not only look very unique, but it will also reflect you and your style.
Build your dream holiday home
I don't know about you, but I've always wanted to own a cabin in the mountains. I mean, all that fresh air and living in the middle of nature, is simply amazing! I know this is something bigger than a hobby, but it started with a hobby in my case and look where it got me. Building a cabin is not for everyone, but if you have a handyman in your family, you can start small and take your time to build something to be proud of.
Because on the mountains the ground is not so good, I suggest you look into renting or investing in
mats that will help you build a safe path from your cabin to the main road. If that is secured, take it slowly and you'll see, you will enjoy your cabin in no time.
Caligraphy
If you enjoy writing and art, then combining it into beautiful lettering. You don’t need much to get started with this hobby either. Some ink, sturdy paper and a range of nibs for your calligraphy pens. There are great calligraphy kits that will come with everything and some tutorials too. A lot of delicate technique comes with forming the letters and getting the pressure right on the strokes. I think this is such a calming hobby and the bonus part is that you have all these beautiful calligraphies that you can frame or even give as a present.
Learn to use a crossbow
I want to get one thing straight, I totally against using a crossbow as a hunting device. I love animals and I don't even hear about hunting, so for me, that's a big no from the start. What I'm not against, is learning how to use a crossbow for recreational purposes. It's pretty interesting and you can also participate in competitions where the
fastest crossbow wins the big prize.
Hobbies are a great way to unwind from work, spend some time doing things you love. Driving down your stress levels, upping your happiness is beneficial to your entire life. So if you have ever wanted to try a hobby, there is no better time than now.
