Have you ever looked at your current lifestyle and felt the need for a change, a change for a healthy lifestyle, a change for a better version of you? I did and I’m still learning that every day but I am here to tell you that is not as hard as it looks like and that every small step counts, the important thing is to begin.
I’ve always had problems with my weight and kept several diets. Sure, they worked for a while but going back to the same unhealthy lifestyle made me gain all that weight back and even more. That got me depressed to a level that I didn’t even want to leave the house anymore.
I was ashamed of myself for not being able to stick to a diet, for not working out the way I should, until I realized I am the only one who can change things and that things don’t change overnight. It takes a lot of time and effort to change a messy lifestyle into a healthy one, but the results are so worth it. So if you’re in the same position or you’re just curious to find out the changes that helped me, read on.
Take small steps
Do you remember that wise saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day”?. If you don’t, you should because it’s true. We often begin to change to a healthy lifestyle and expect results overnight – usually by relacing the contents of the fridge with healthier food choices. It doesn’t work that way sadly. Just take your time and let your body adjust to the change, you didn’t get overweight in one day, so why would your body lose fat fast?
Indoor exercises
Just because it is cold, windy, wet and miserable outside, you should not give up your exercise. At the end of the day, you need to take care of your body and weight and protect your immune system the best way.
Yoga is an amazing form of physical exercise that involves extended stretching that improves posture and creates a lean, sculpted look. Additionally, consistent practice of yoga can lower blood pressure and increase insulin receptivity. The good part is, you just need a good
yoga mat for this and you're good to go. There are many health benefits of yoga and classes to fit your physical and mental needs.
Make healthy choices
Considering it’s the unhealthy choices that brought us here, it’s safe to say that giving them up is the first step towards happiness. I gave up sugar, carbs (bread, pasta) and I started to look for healthier alternatives that are even more delicious I might add. Try to read the labels as much as you can because there are so many processed foods out there that are not really what they advertise to be.
Vitamin Supplements
It is crucial that you adjust your diet to the winter weather and support your immune system fighting back cold. You don’t want to spend weeks in bed just because you didn’t take care of your body. Implement seasonal fresh vegetables in your diet, start your day with orange or lemon juice, and increase your
vitamin supplement intake, with a particular focus on Vitamins B, D, and C.
Think positive
Positive thoughts can help you develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. They’re the most effective tool for replacing your negative thoughts with positive ones. These thoughts will help you stay on track and to achieve your goals.
